BiographyLeonard J. Wolf, age 96 of Shawano, was called to his heavenly rest on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Born on March 15, 1915 in the Town of Belle Plaine, he was the son of the late Emil and Amelia (Kuhn) Wolf. Leonard grew up in the Belle Plaine area where he attended Grass Lake School and St. Martin’s German School. On May 20, 1939 he was united in marriage to Verna Buchert in Watertown. The couple farmed the Emil Wolf Family farm for 35 years. In retirement they moved to Shawano. Leonard was a lifelong member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in the Town of Belle Plaine. He was active in church affairs as a treasurer and trustee. He was proud to sit on the committee that purchased the new organ. Leonard had a great love for music, beginning with the violin. Later, he learned to play concertina and would become a renowned musician playing for many weddings, showers, picnics and parties. His first band was “Frank’s Round Up”, and was followed by the familiar “Swing Your Hoof with Leonard Wolf”. In 2007, he was inducted into the World Concertina Congress Hall of Fame. Leonard also enjoyed fishing and camping.
