Roger L. Waukau, Sr.

Life Legacy


Roger Louis Waukau, Sr., age 75 of Neopit, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011 in Shawano following a short but courageous battle with lymphoma. Born on September 14, 1936 in Keshena, he was the son of the late Mitchell and Susie (Wilber) Waukau. On July 20, 1957 he was united in marriage to Diana Cox at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. Roger enjoyed his job at Menominee Tribal Enterprise for the entire 45 years he was there, the last 25 of which he worked as a Forest Product Salesman. He loved the Menominee woods and enjoyed spending time in it especially with his family. Roger also enjoyed attending his family’s sporting events, fishing, hunting, camping, having cookouts and going to the casino. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

Roger is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Diana; 4 children, Roger “Teeko” Waukau, Jr. of Shawano, Jacqueline (Dan) Pubanz of Shawano, Reynold (Amy Gansen) Waukau of Legend Lake, Ron (Beth) Waukau of Keshena; a special niece, Nanny Corn of Neopit; 9 grandchildren, Jessie (Kyle), Josh (Paige), Amber, Adrienne, Rochelle, Chelsea, Brianna, R.J., Brayden; and 3 great-grandchildren, Adrian, Nikkolas and Jordynn. Roger is further survived by: 2 sister, Yvonne Knowles, Jolly Waukau; 2 brothers, Mervin Waukau, Tony Waukau; 4 sisters-in-law, Sharon Quinney, Jan Cox, Deb Cox, Karen Waukau; 3 brothers-in-law, Walt (Roberta) Cox, Doug (Jean) Cox, Bill Cox; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by: his parents; 5 brothers, Hilary, Orman, Marvin, Wayne, Lloyd; and 2 sisters, Juanita Irving and Monica Bell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, December 30, 2011 at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit with the Rev. Robert Rank officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Neopit Community Center after 2:00pm on Wednesday until the time of the service on Friday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at the center on Thursday at 7pm. A memorial fund has been established for the Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer Foundation (www.cruiseforcancer.org/donate). Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Green Bay Oncology, the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital especially Dr. Thomas Saphner and Ruth B, and the staff at Shawano Medical Center especially Dr. Culhane. A special thank you the Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer Foundation for the all the support given to Roger’s entire family during his battle with cancer.
