Biography

E. John DeVries, age 63 of Shawano, passed away Friday, February 10, 2012 at a local nursing home. Born on September 12, 1948 in Wascott, he was the son of the late Emmett and Mary (Wozny) DeVries. After graduating from White Lake High School, John served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was a Purple Heart recipient. Soon after his Honorable Discharge from service, John went to work as a truck driver for Morning Glory Dairy. He worked there for more than 30 years, retiring in 2005. On May 23, 2011 he was united in marriage to Patricia Anker in Shawano. John was an avid sports fan especially the WI Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. He was also a master fisherman and deer hunter. In his free time he enjoyed making firewood and woodworking. John was a member of the White Lake American Legion.

John is survived by: his wife, Patricia; his daughter, Amy (Mike) Richling of White Lake; his granddaughter, Lindsey Neau-DeVries; 2 step-children, Kathy Anker of Shawano, Jeff Anker of Shawano; 4 sisters, Linda (Bill) Hoyt of Spooner, Carole DeVries of Webster, Donna Wishowski of Ladysmith, Shirley DeVries of Eau Claire; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Marty Black officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117 at the funeral home following the service. Inurnment will be in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday after 12:00noon until the time of the service.
