Obituary

Alan "Moon Dawg" Penass, age 54 of Shawano, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020. Alan was born in Shawano, WI to William Penass, Jr. and Emerine (Corn) Penass. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated from Menominee Indian High School. He was baptized and a member of St. Michael's Church. Moon Made many friends while employed at Menominee Casino and Bingo, Sorenson's Lumber Mill, Rivermart, Creative Converting, Hillstop, Charlie's County Market, and Save-A-Lot. He was a fan of the Packers, Brewers, and Menominee baseball teams, along with being one of "Tree People". He enjoyed throwing horseshoes and spending time with family and friends at Penass Camp. Moon had many good times on Thursday nights at "The Mouse House" with the Sanapaw family. He also loved taking rides in the woods with his children.

Moon is survived by his four children, Robert Penass (Megan Kaquatosh), Raenell Penass, Renai Penass (Shannon Tucker Jr.), and LeChelle Penass; four grandchildren, Robert Penass Jr., Layla, Kaedence, and Hailey Tucker; siblings, Rae Ellen (Roger) Baker, Beverly (Donnie) Dodge, Patricia (Patrick) Firgens, William (Mary) Penass III, Kevin Penass, and Brenda Besaw; special nieces and nephews, Mike and Missy Penass, Kevin Penass Jr., Jeremy Penass, Malia Penass, and Brian "Maenawec" Miller; godchildren, Bradley Penass, Ashley Penass, Ricky Fischer, Charlee Ann Tourtillott, and Dayna Besaw. Special people in his life were Melissa Vele, Devawn, Maniyanne, Sequoia, Meadow, and Michael Salgado; special grandchildren, Awaehsaeh III, Violet, Aviyana, Cyrus, and Luna. He was called "Uncle Moon" by many and leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Penass; nephews, Clinton "Sos" Miller and Anthony Penass; and nieces, Ava Basina and baby girl Penass.

A funeral service for Moon will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Fr. Nonito Barra officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 12, 2020 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to his hospice nurse Holly, social worker Molly, nurse Melanie, and the Radiology/Outpatient Departments and the staff at ThedaCare Shawano, and the Menominee Tribal Clinic  for the care they provided to him.

Moon was a larger than life person that had a gift for making people laugh, giving out nicknames, and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
