Alan A. Heins, age 83 of Shawano, died on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in Green Bay. He was born in the Town of Herman on February 17, 1936 to the late Arno and Doris (Hohn) Heins. Al enlisted in the United States Army in September of 1954, serving in Germany for two and a half years, before his honorable discharge in August of 1957. On January 3, 1959, Al was united in marriage to Karen Leonard, who preceded him in death on August 30, 1999. In 1977, the couple founded Heins Appliance in Shawano. Al was united in marriage to Barbara Smits on April 12, 2000. The couple attended Hope Community Church in Shawano. Al was an active member of the community, formerly serving on the Shawano School Board, a volunteer for the Shawano Area Fire Department, a life-time member of Navarino Nature Center, Shawano Fish and Game Club, Shawano Gun Club, life member of the N.R.A., life member of Shawano VFW Post #2723, and a member of the Shawano Masonic Lodge #170 F & A.M.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara; children, Craig (Renee) Heins, Lori (Doug) Allen, Brian (Kathie) Heins, Roxane (John) Runge, Laura (Gary) Strehlow, Gerald (Stephanie) Heins, and Candice (Bryan) Baumler; grandchildren, Amanda (Chad) Allen, Melissa (Steve) Johnson, and Travis Heins; and numerous great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister, Eunice Wilkerson of Colorado; along with numerous other relatives, and many friends.
Al is preceded in death by his wife, Karen, and his parents, Arno and Doris.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2020 at Hope Community Church in Shawano, with Rev. John Anderson officiating. Following the service, military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post #2723. Visitation will be held at Hope Community Church in Shawano on Sunday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and again at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Shawano Ambulance Service, the Shawano E.R., and all the medical staff at Aurora BayCare Medical Center.
