Andrew "AJ" John Mraz, age 52 of Shawano, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in Green Bay surrounded by his family after fighting a courageous battle against lung cancer. Andy was born on January 15, 1961 to Joe and Gen Mraz of Shawano. He grew up in the Shawano area and graduated from Shawano High School in 1979. While still in high school, Andy started and operated his first business, A.J.'s Vacuum Line Cleaning and White Washing. After graduating, he spent 4 years in Florida working as a machinist. He farmed in Shawano from 1988 until 2006. In 1986 he started the North Central Auto and Machining which is now known as NCA Machining of Shawano. He also owned and managed Mraz Properties of Shawano. He was vice-president of the Lunds SnoBirds Snowmobile Club for many years. On May 22, 2010 Andy was united in marriage to Cindy Fabry. When not working, Andy's favorite hobby was riding his Harley with his loving wife, Cindy, along with his friends and family. The group took their last ride together around Lake Michigan this past June. Andy was also an avid deer hunter and always enjoyed the week before Thanksgiving at the cabin with his brothers and friends. He also enjoyed playing pool and Sheepshead. Andy is survived by: his wife, Cindy; his two beloved daughters, Amanda (Aaron) Cawthorn of Norwalk, IA, Alicia Mraz of Shawano; the mother of his children, Cathy (nee Hill) Hoffman; a stepdaughter, Sarah (Tim) Via of Gillett; a stepson, Josh (Rachel) Brokiewicz; his father, Joe (Elaine) Mraz of Pella; 2 brothers, Jim (Deb) Mraz and Joe (Cathy) Mraz both of Shawano; 6 sisters, Sandy (Mark) Gulmire of Hancock, Karen (Dave) Theis of Shawano, Julie (Jay) Bishop of Pella, Mary (Tom) Bloomer of Pella, Debbie Elertson of Gillett, Tammy (Dave Bartz) Friedrich of Shawano; stepbrother, Kenny Wolfe; 2 stepsisters, Anita (Jamie) Smith of Laurenceberg, IN, Pamela Faehling of Marion; 3 grandchildren, Jonah and Kira Cawthorn, Macein Via, with a 4th grandchild on the way; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and many, many friends. Andy was preceded in death by: his mother, Gen (nee Lenzner) Mraz; a brother, Bob Mraz; and a nephew, Mitchell Bishop. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Fred Zimmermann officiating. Burial will be in the Jerusalem Cemetery in Lunds. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Friday from 4:00-8:00pm and at the church on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of the service. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
