Barbara E. Hopfensperger nee Beier passed away after a brief illness at the age of 68 in Milwaukee on August 16, 2024. Barbara was born June 9, 1956, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Gerald H. Beier and Margaret (Erdman) Beier. She attended Milwaukee schools, until moving to Shawano with her parents in 1973. She graduated from Shawano High School in 1974. She resided in Shawano up to her passing.

On October 11, 1986, she married the love of her life, Norman Hopfensperger at Peace United Church in Shawano. This year would have been their 38th anniversary. Barbara worked as a social worker at the former Maple Lane HCC for over two decades having a significant impact on the residents she advocated for. She also enjoyed her trips to Sarasota, Florida with Norm and her sister Sue, as well as her cherished pet dog, Samba, and her seven grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her husband Norman of Shawano; three children, Sarah (Steven) of Shawano, Jennifer (Keith) of Shawano, and Paul (Kari) of Shawano; seven grandchildren, Cody, Alexander, Sean (Niki), Macie, Drake, Tela, and Trey; two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Delaney; sister, Dr. Sue Hanratty (Patrick) of LaCrosse; brother, Gary (Kathrine) of New Berlin; nephews, Todd and Jeffrey; and niece, Elyse.

Family will be having a private service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated as Barbara advocated for this disease during her years of social work.
