Beatrice "Bea" Martin, age 89 of Clintonville, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019. Bea was born on September 23, 1929 to the late James and Bernice (Calhoun) Soufal. On May 16, 1953, Bea was united in marriage to James Martin in Shawano. James preceded Bea in death on July 12, 1977. After graduating from high school, Bea attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Green Bay, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in nursing. Bea's 44-year nursing career included employment with St. Mary's Hospital and Shawano Hospital. During her husband's career in the U. S. Air Force - Strategic Air Command, Bea's employment also spanned to Denver, Colorado, Fort Worth, Texas, and Fort Fairfield, Maine. Upon returning to Milwaukee, she worked at St. Luke's Hospital for five years, then dedicated 23 years to Mount Sinai Medical Center, where she was the Nursing Director in the newborn nursery for a time. Life's journey included a move back to Shawano, where she was employed at Heartland Nursing Home for eight years until her retirement in 1993. Bea was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Bea enjoyed reading, knitting, fishing, playing cards and swimming. Bea loved spending time at the family cottage with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren... who were the love of her life.
Bea is survived by: her five children, Toni (Joe) Christian of Fond Du Lac, Tim (Lynn) Martin of Milwaukee, Todd (Kathie) Martin of Greenfield, Terry (Diane) Martin of Kewaskum, and Tom (Lori) Martin of Embarrass; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; and her brother, Gerald (Carol) Soufal of Shawano.
Bea was preceded in death by: her husband; her parents; two brothers Patrick Soufal and James Soufal.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 22, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with Fr. Tom Farrell officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, April 22, 2019 from 9:30 am until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
