Bernard "Bernie" Binon, age 74 of Shawano, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at his home. Born on March 10, 1940 in Green Bay, he was the son of the late Bernard and Mary Magdalin (Tiplet) Binon. After graduating from high school, Bernie enlisted with the United States Navy and proudly served his country for six years. After his honorable discharge from service, he returned to the Milwaukee area where he was a bus driver for Milwaukee County Transit. When not at work, Bernie loved spending time with his kids and beloved grandchildren. He also had a passion for racing, both as a driver and as a fan, and sending snail mail. Known to many as "Rubber Duckie" his great sense of humor, quick wit, joking personality, and kind heart will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Bernie is survived by: his 7 children, Jill (Barrie) Binon of Mequon, Joseph (Kathy) Binon of West Allis, Mary (David) Soliz of West Allis, Kimberly (Salvador) Binon-Tejeda of Gresham, Nikki (Clinton) Binon-Lashley of Racine, Leslie (Jason) Ladner of New Berlin, Donald (Amanda) Binon of Milwaukee; 2 daughters-in-law, Jennifer Fuhrmann of Menominee Falls, Kay Binon; 16 grandchildren, Julianna, David, Ashley, Riley, Marley, James, Cody, Tori, Emma, Abbi, Jonathyn, Makinna, Morgan, Dakota, Mike Jr., Kahlina; 4 siblings, Janice (Frank) Hernet, Cindy (Jeff) Hafert, Dennis (Linda) Binon, Ben (Kathy) Binon; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bernie was preceded in death by: his parents; and a brother Wayne. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano. Military Rites will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117 at the funeral home following the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00am until the time of the service.
