Obituary

Bernard J. "Joe" Tomow, age 75 of Keshena, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012 in Milwaukee surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 19, 1937 in Keshena, he was the son of the late Chief Henry and Frances (Waupoose) Tomow, Sr. After graduating from high school, Joe enlisted with the United States Army and served his country for two years. On January 29, 1966 he was united in marriage to Gen Matchopatow in Keshena. Throughout his life, Joe had several jobs including the Capital Cab Co. in Springfield, IL, Menominee Highway Department, a truck driver for Northern Hay & Grain, the Menominee County Sheriff's Department, Menominee Tribal Police Department in Keshena, Sorenson Lumber Company in Shawano, and he owned and operated Tomow's Auto Salvage in Keshena. Joe was a generous man who gladly helped anyone and everyone. He had a great sense of humor and loved getting his way. In his free time, Joe enjoyed working on cars and restoring them. He also enjoyed being outdoors, going to the casino and playing poker. But his true enjoyment in life came from moments spent with his beloved grandchildren. Joe was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena. Joe is survived by: his wife, Gen; 4 children, Linda (Jay) Tourtillott of Keshena, Alan (Kandice) Tomow, Sr., of Keshena, Jerilynn (Michael) Weso of Bonduel, Daniel (Mary) Tomow, Sr. of Keshena; a step son, John (Tina) Mueller of Kaukauna; 23 grandchildren, Jeri, Bruce, Bernard, Travis, Lynsay, Alan Jr., Natasha, Lariah, Kemewan, Madeline, Joseph, Wayne, Shane, Genevieve, Téa, Aidyn, Dale, Joy, Danielle, Daniel Jr., Michael, Natasha, Jada; 9 great-grandchildren, David, Jolynn, Anthony, Cai, Erica, Nikali, Laetyn, Ryland, Vivianne; and 4 siblings, Margaret (Forrest) King, Lawrence (Ione) Tomow, Henry Tomow, Jr. and Colin (Angala) Tomow all of Keshena. Joe was preceded in death by: his parents; and 5 siblings, Chief Louis Tomow, Lucille Lyons, Elizabeth Mays, Gertrude Horrighs and Kenneth Tomow. Funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012 at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena with the Rev. Robert Rank officiating. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Menominee County with Military Rites conducted by the Menominee American Legion Post #497 and the Veterans of the Menominee Nation. Visitation will be held at the Andrea Kaquatosh residence located at W1621 Fox Ridge Road, Keshena from 2:00pm on Wednesday until the procession leaves for the church on Friday.
