Bernhard Evan Stuewer, Sr. age 81, of South Branch, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in Shawano. Born in the Town of How on November 4, 1935, Bernhard is the son of the late Gerhard and Leola (Lyons) Stuewer. On November 10, 1956, Bernhard was united in marriage to Hazel M. Johnson in South Branch. Hazel preceded Bernie in death on April 20, 2017. The couple lived in the Fond du Lac area for over 30 years before returning to South Branch after Bernie's 2002 retirement from Giddings and Lewis, where he worked for over 25 years. Bernie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching football. He loved his family dearly and loved spending time with them, particularly his grandchildren.
Bernie is survived by: his children, Bernhard (Sandy) Stuewer, Jr. of Fond du Lac, Alice (Darvin) Rickert of Oakfield, Gerhard (Cindy) Stuewer of Omro, and Joseph (Jeannie) Stuewer of New Holstein; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; his sister, Luretta Wilber of Hayes; as well as two brothers-in-law, Robert Johnson of Suring and Frederick Johnson of Green Bay; and his sister-in-law, Jill (Paul Marroquin) Johnson of Suring. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hazel; his parents; two sisters, Hilda (Dalton) Heimerman and Violet (LaVern) Hinkfus; brothers-in-law, Gene Wilber and Jack Johnson; and sisters-in-law, Crystal (Carl) Kaquatosh, Chantel Johnson, Esther Johnson, and Marilyn Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 3, 2017 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena with Rev. Joel Jores officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac. Visitation will be held at the Father Dave Barret Hall on Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 3:00 – 9:00 pm and again at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. A parish wake service will be held at the hall at 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 2, 2017.
