Bessie Kuckuk died on March 28, 2016. She was born on September 20, 1921 to the late Arthur and Inez (Dengel) Harbath. After graduating from Scandinavia (Wisconsin) High School she went on to Milwaukee School of Nursing where she got her R.N. degree. After her position at St. John's Military academy in Delafield, Wisconsin she joined the Army Nurse Corp. She served in England and France with the 199
th
General Hospital during World War II.
After returning home she married John "Jack" Kuckuk. Bess was a long term member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shawano where she served various times as a Sunday school teacher, a Deacon and sponsor of the youth group.
Bess was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, her parents and brothers, Arthur Junior Harbath and Clyde Harbath.
She is survived by sons, Steven and James Kuckuk; daughter Sandra Early; grandchildren, Aaron (Karen) Kuckuk and Joe Kuckuk, Ryan Early, Jenifer Early and Rachel (Mark) Shepard; as well as four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Kuckuk, Madison Kuckuk, Cindee Miller and Elliot Menacher. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge the kind and compassionate works of the staff of Community Alternatives and Theda Care At-Home Hospice whose help allowed Bess to live in her own home until the very end.
