Obituary

Betty J. Hanke, age 94, formerly of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, January, 7, 2020. Betty was born on November 18, 1925, in the Town of Maine in Outagamie County, to the late Howard and Ethel (Albischer) Hurlbert. Betty graduated with the Shawano High School class of 1944. On September 7, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to James "Jim" Hanke at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. She was the beloved wife of Jim, loving mother of 4 children, and doting grandmother to 9 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Betty loved going to Oneida to play bingo with her husband and children. She enjoyed her cottage on the Wolf River, and the time spent there with her family and friends.

Betty is survived by: her children, Leah (Gregg) Rossell and Traci (Jim) Wojnowski; her son-in-law, Michael Jaroch; her grandchildren, Richard (Sandy), LeAnn (Tom), Vicky (Ben), Jason (Amanda), Jamie (Scott), Jennifer, Jessica (Heather), Zachary (Lauren), and Samantha; 13 great-grandchildren; her brother, Alan "Bud" Hurlbert; and sister-in-law, Jayne Deering. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her children, Andrea Ruechel-Holtz and Jimi Lynn Jaroch.

A funeral service for Betty will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 10, 2020 at St. James Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Drengler officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday at church from 9:30 am until the time of service.
