Obituary

Betty Jean Marvin (1937 - 2025), better known to the legions of students who passed through Shawano's Franklin Middle School as 'Miss Marvin', has placed her final book on the bookshelf.

Born in Brooks, WI, she graduated as class valedictorian from Adams-Friendship High School. Betty then attended Wisconsin State College - Stevens Point, graduating with a degree in Education. Her first, and only, teaching position was at Franklin Middle School, teaching 7th Grade Social Studies for 39 years. Her love of learning touched many lives.

Betty was a lover of books, yellow Labrador Retrievers, playing cards (especially 500) with family and friends, fishing with her young nephews, and especially a good laugh. Her holiday pies were legendary.

Betty is survived by her sister, Bonnie Hine, along with her nephews Jeffrey (Sue) Hine, Timothy (Brenda) Hine, and Daniel (Christine) Hine. She is also survived by many grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great grand-nephews and great grand-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert (aka, Dan) and Ava Marvin. She also leaves her many friends, including Mr. Fernandez, who helped her with many tasks around her home and her longtime friends Jane, Tom and Kristin who looked after Betty with such great care.

A remembrance celebration will be held at a later date. Betty will be interred at New Chester Cemetery in Adams County. In remembrance of Betty, donations to the ASPCA, the Humane Society or a local animal shelter in her memory would be greatly appreciated.
