Obituary

Betty Rae Elsie Marie (Strauss) Schmidt passed away peacefully in her home on June 24, 2016. Betty was born in the Town of Richmond on August 19, 1922, the daughter of the late Frank and Martha (Giese) Strauss. She graduated from Shawano High School in 1941. Betty Rae was Christian with a strong belief in prayer. On November 28, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to Randall Schmidt at her parents' home. Betty Rae and Randall would have been married 70 years this November. Together they purchased Muehl's Furniture and Floorcovering in 1965, working side-by-side throughout their career, until selling in 2002. They always chose to walk the path of life together. She lived a fulfilling life with her husband Randall at her side through her last breath.
Family always came first for Betty Rae. She and Randall helped to care for their grandson Andy's medical needs, traveling to and from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Sometimes they were gone for weeks to months at a time. Jessica blessed them with three great-granddaughters to fill their home with young laughter and love. Betty's pain seemed to disappear with the love of her granddaughters. She always took the time needed, never rushed, and was always patient. She belonged to the Shawano Homemaker Club, was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, where she helped at various functions and groups. Betty Rae enjoyed living on the water, fishing, boating, flowers and gardening.
Betty Rae is survived by: her husband, Randall; her daughter, Betsy M. (Thomas) Zernicke; two grandchildren, Jessica (Neil) Weiland and Andrew Zierden; three great-granddaughters, Katie, Claire, and Nora; and her sister-in-law, Ferril Lindroth, all of Shawano.
She was preceded in death by: her parents and nine siblings, Leona Rusch, Walter Strauss, Lester Strauss, Harold Strauss, Franklin Strauss, Edward Strauss, Doris Allhiser, Isla Wuedtke, and Lula Teetzen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Peace United Church of Christ with Rev. Skip Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 9:30 am until the time of the service.
