Betty J. Wendland, age 91, passed away Friday, December 15, 2023, in Shawano. She was born on June 2, 1932, in Cecil, Wisconsin to the late Emil and Frieda (Kuehl) Buss. Betty graduated from Bonduel High School. On September 26, 1953, she was united in marriage to Melvin Wendland at Friedens Lutheran Church in Bonduel. The couple spent 69 wonderful years together before Melvin's passing on February 16, 2023.

Betty was an active volunteer at the Bonduel Archives for many years. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and her candy making was enjoyed by her family and friends every Christmas. Betty  always had a smile on her face and loved spending time with her family. Her famous saying was always "I had a good life."

Betty is survived by her children John (Charlene) Wendland, Jeff (Leslie) Wendland, Joyce (Randy) Brienen, and Jerry (Corrine) Wendland; grandchildren, Matt, Jenny, Tyler, Lane, Lucas, Abbie, Brooke, Catie, Kelly, Kevin, Jay, Logan and Alec; great-grandchildren, Lola, Emily, Carter, Ellison, Gibson, Sawyer, Fischer, Claire, Brice, Brody, Braelynne, and Bryant; sister in-law, Ginny (Dick) Bryer and brother-in-law Rev. Luther (Maureen) Wendland. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; brother, Harvey (Sally) Buss, sister; Violet (Vern) Hinz, in-laws; Delores (Neil) Jahnke, Miriam (Romain) Schultz, sister-in-law Eunice Plieses and brother in-law Rev. Robert Wendland.

A memorial service will be held on December 27, 2023 at 11:00 am at Friedens Lutheran Church in Bonduel, with Rev. David Ticks officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 am until the time of service. Inurnment will be in Friedens Lutheran Cemetery.
