Obituary

Billy Lee Suprise, age 65, of Shawano passed away on Tuesday December 9, 2025. Billy was born on June 7, 1960, in New London, son of Bonnie (Bohardt) Suprise and the late Neal Suprise. After graduating from Shawano High School Billy enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country honorably. While serving in the Navy he was proud to have worked his way up to being the mess management specialist senior chief surface warfare. The Navy also took Billy to the Philippines where he met his future wife, Rowena "Winnie" Ranit; on February 21, 1987, Billy and Winnie were united in marriage in New Orleans, Louisiana. Billy retired from the Navy after serving for 20 years, not because he wanted to leave the Navy but because he knew it would be best for his family to stay and grow in Shawano. After retiring from the Navy Billy worked in sales at Reinhart, as an over-the-road truck driver and also as a school bus driver for Shawano School District. Billy was a dedicated lifetime member of the Shawano AMVETS and the  Shawano VFW. He was an expert marksman and enjoyed shooting in his free time. Billy loved his family dearly and enjoyed his life, he was known to say, "It would take the undertaker a chisel and a sledgehammer to knock the grin off my face". Billy was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and son and will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Billy is survived by his wife, Winnie; children, William Suprise and Jennifer (Ben) Thomas; granddaughters, Mora Gail Thomas and Sailor Sarah Thomas; mother, Bonnie Suprise; and his beloved dog, Liko. He is further survived by other relatives and friends including good friends and members of the Manhattan Club, LaRon Buettner and Jake Schroeder.

Billy is preceded in death by his brother, Brian Suprise and father, Neal Suprise.

A memorial service for Billy will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday December 18, 2025, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Military honors will be conducted by the AMVETS and the VFW at the funeral home following the service. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano at a later date.
