Born on January 19, 1944 in Milwaukee, he was the son of the late Weber and Beatrice (Elmergreen) Bartholomaus. Brett was born and raised in Milwaukee and White Fish Bay, which became the principal settings for his published novel, "Reflection of Evil." As a former power-lifter, athlete and private cop, he wrote from knowledge and experience. His extensive research for the novel took him into dark streets, morgues, government offices, police hangouts, hospitals and prisons where he met and mingled with people from all walks of life and both sides of the law. B. W. Bartholomaus attended Milwaukee Technical College, where his interests and talents ranged from weightlifting and wrestling to theatre and writing. On February 19, 1977 he was united in marriage to Joan (Cavosi) Gerds in Milwaukee. Brett and his son, Eric, were avid motorcyclists and backpackers. In contrast to the violent, lurid world of his novels, he was a fine, much published poet appearing in numerous magazines and anthologies. He was a four time recipient of the Golden Poets Award and was also a six time biographies inclusive in Marquis' Who's Who. The following web sites were created and developed by the author and his son, working together as a team, with the help of a good friend, Gail Koch. He resided in Bowler, Wisconsin, a rural area in the deep woods. His household was cohabited by black cat Loki; Border collie named Champie; and on African Conure named Sammie Brett is survived by: his son, Eric (Linda Dube) Gerds of Wausau; his daughter, Laura (Dan) Shouldice of Hustisford; and his grandsons, Jim and John Larsen both of Watertown. Brett was preceded in death: by his wife, Joan on September 11, 2002; his parents; and fiancé Karen Heins on June 22, 2013.
