Obituary

Bruce A. Wilber, Sr., age 79 of Keshena, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012 at his home. Born on July 4, 1933 in Keshena, he was the son of the late Earl and Mary Margaret (LaFrombois) Wilber. On July 7, 1950 Bruce enlisted with the United States Army and served his country for three years during the Korean Conflict. He was very proud of his military service and would always say, "I was the best darn gunner in Korea." After his honorable discharge, Bruce returned to the Menominee Reservation and established Wilber's Logging and later opened Wilber's Fireworks. Bruce also opened the first Indian Gaming facility in Wisconsin and was also the first elected treasurer for Menominee County. When not working, Bruce loved nature and being outdoors whether bear hunting, spearing, berry picking, or just being in the woods. He was a devoted father and loving grandfather who was especially proud of his family and was the #1 fan at all of his children and grandchildren's sporting events. Bruce also liked to follow and cheer on the Menominee youth in sports as well as the Shawano High School Basketball team. Bruce was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena and a member and former commander of the Menominee American Legion Post #497. Bruce is survived by: 6 children, Bruce (Shannon) Wilber, Jr., Tony (Vicky) Wilber, Bryan (Mary) Wilber, Deb (Tom) Boelter, Dawn Wilber, Mike (Sheila) Wilber and his "sunfish" David Corn, Jr.; 18 grandchildren, Candace, Tawny, Jeri, Darcie, Bruce III, Margaret, Diana, Alexis, Bernard, Josh "Patoot", Kaitlyn, Delany, BreAnn, Marcus, Ciara, Waylon, Swede, Robert; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Edwin Wilber, Clifford (Karen) Wilber; and a sister, Eileen Wilber. Bruce was preceded in death by: his parents; 6 siblings, Louis, Earl, Antonette, Rita, Theresa, Greg; and 3 grandchildren, Tony "Tim" Wilber, Nikki Marie Wynos and BradLee Wilber. Funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena with Father David Barrett and Father David McElroy O Praem officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Menominee American Legion Post #497 and the Veterans of the Menominee Nation. Visitation will be held at Wilber Fireworks located at N248 State Hwy 47/55 starting at 2:00p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 until the procession leaves for the church on Monday.
