Carl E. Gebert, age 83 of Gresham, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in Neenah. Carl Ernest Gebert entered this world on February 15, 1929 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, the 5th of 8 children born to Herman and Marian (Estey) Gebert. At the age of 16, Carl joined the U.S. Coast Guard as a volunteer reservist and after graduating from high school, joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was based in Panama and flew so many miles in that short period of his life that he refused to ever step foot on an airplane again!! Carl's time in service also left him with many great stories that he enjoyed sharing over the years. Following his discharge, Carl met and married Shirley Faircloth on January 30, 1951 and the two were married for 17 years. The couple made their home in Ft. Lauderdale where they raised their two children. During that time, Carl drove a gas tanker for Standard Oil for a number of years, eventually achieving his goal of owning his own gas station and garage. A few years after Carl's marriage came to an end, he rekindled a friendship with an old school sweetheart and on June 1, 1971 he married Marilyn Miller. In 1978 the couple left Florida and moved to Gresham to enjoy rural life and to be closer to his mother and sisters who had also migrated to the area. Carl worked at Shamoco Ford and the Gresham Coop until his retirement. He enjoyed his big gardens, making sauer kraut, and raising pigs and chickens, and was well known in the community for always lending a helping hand. He and Marilyn's home was a place of many good times and family gatherings. Marilyn passed on to her heavenly home in December of 2006 and has no doubt been making plans for his arrival.
