Carol Rae Hoffmann, age 67 of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at her home after a battle with cancer. Born on October 10, 1944 in Shawano, she is the daughter of the late Raymond R. and Viola (Criscione) Powell. Carol lived her entire life in the Shawano area, was a graduate of the Shawano High School Class of 1963 and later worked for Mid-County Co-Op. On December 5, 1964 she was united in marriage to William Hoffmann in Shawano. Carol was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church where she was active in the LWML, in the Senior Choir and was a greeter. She was also active with the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Silver Fox Exercise Club, and was a volunteer at SAFPARC. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, walking and loved spending time with her family. Carol is survived by: her husband, William; her daughter, Debra Ann (Greg) Rudie of Gillett; 2 grandchildren, Jacob, Briana; a great-grandchild due in October; 3 brothers, Victor D. Powell, Leon Powell, Keith Powell; 2 sisters, Joan M. (Archie) Russell, Valarie (Tom Monsour) Powell; brother-in-law, Richard (Donna) Hoffmann; sister-in-law, Nancy (Lynn) Hansen; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. Carol was preceded in death by: her parents, Raymond and Viola Powell; a sister, Connie Fay Purpura; and a sister in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2012 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Inurnment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Sunday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday after 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
