Obituary

Caroline Josephine Grover (Studach) passed away on July 28, 2025 at the age of 86. Born April 7, 1939 in the small town of Gresham, Wisconsin, the fifth of six children to Swiss immigrants Ferdinand and Johanna Studach. Her humble beginnings, deeply rooted faith and her love of family and traditions were her constant guiding posts throughout her life.
Caroline made friends wherever she went with her quick smile and sweet gentle nature. She was active in her community, St. Francis Solanus Catholic church and school; earning valedictorian of her class and a full ride scholarship to a state school in Wisconsin.  She relinquished that scholarship to stay home and help take care of her mom and younger brother as her dad had passed away when she was seventeen.

While working and taking care of her mother she saved money to help her youngest brother pay for his college education. During these years she also enjoyed trips to Cedarburg, WI to spend time with her two sisters and nieces and nephews.  Additionally, she loved to attend local dances and could polka like no other.

As luck would have it a local politician knocked on her door one fateful day in 1964 as he was campaigning for the State Legislature. He knew immediately that he had found a gem. After a whirlwind romance and some much needed "nerve" pills for Caroline's mother, she married Herbert Joseph Grover of Shawano, Wisconsin on July 31, 1965 after only a few months of dating. The whirlwind didn't end as the house began to fill with children. While Herbert worked hard on his political career, Caroline held down the fort managing a household of ten on a shoestring budget. She was an expert garage saler, coupon clipper, clothes maker and gardener which helped feed her crew. She never missed one of her kids' games, concerts, or events and later in life she was always thrilled to attend one of her grandchildren's events.

Caroline was the glue in the family and appropriately nicknamed Mother Teresa. As it took not only the patience of a saint to raise eight children but a loving heart. It is impossible to truly capture the essence of a saint. She spent her life devoted to her husband and children and eventually 27 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Family was everything to her and she created the most loving home. Her go to sayings and mantras she lived by were "If it's not one thing, it's ten of another" and "This too shall pass"

She was a master of all things from writing poems, quilting, accounting-acting as Bert's secretary in his post political years, baking-her children would come home from school to homemade goodies as an afternoon treat and she always had special seasonal cut out cookies for the grandkids- to knitting sweaters and blankets and wood working -taking special pride in the handcrafted doll houses she made for each family. She was philosophical, creative and poetic.  She spent countless hours making personalized family cook books, specially made memory books filled with pictures, poems and words of inspiration and compilations of the family genealogy. These are only a small but valuable part of the legacy she has left.

Caroline lived her faith daily with her humility and kindness, joy and laughter that were ever present and infectious, filling all spaces she entered with a sincere smile and welcoming heart. She taught her kids and grandkids to enjoy the simple pleasures in life like a morning snowfall, ice skating on a pond, the beauty of wild flowers growing in a field and that life was always better after a scoop of ice cream.

Caroline left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. She was a gift of light to all those who knew her.  Her unselfish giving of time and effort was a blessing to all who came in contact with her.

Like the rarely found Edelweiss symbolizing purity, courage, devotion, and resilience we were honored to have had 86 years with our very own Edelweiss.

Her memory lives on with her husband of of sixty years Herbert; children John (Diane) Grover, Michael (Shelly) Grover, Patrick (Denise) Grover, Johanna Grover, Caroline (Gary)  VanDrisse, Christine (Jeffrey) Hart, Mary (Michael) Bortolotti, Herbert (Whitney) Grover.  Twenty seven grandchildren: Alex (Sarah), Kelsey (Cecilia), Megan (Kyle) Nicholas, MaryEllen, Hans, Ana, Lars, Hunter, Connor, Colin, Hannah Grace, Caroline, Francesca, Cecelia, Arthur, Wyatt, Adriana, Tomasen, Miriam, Isabella, Grover, Fineli, Harrison, Sullivan, Herbert Graham, Reynolds and two great grandchildren: Anna Katheryn, Marc, and many beloved Studach and Grover relatives.
