Carolyn "Cookie" Strasman, age 84, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Thursday July 17, 2025, at her home. Cookie was born on January 16, 1941, in Milwaukee to the late Stephen and Helen (Koviak) Kalamen. On May 6, 1961, she was united in marriage to Roger John Strasman in New Berlin. The couple spent a wonderful 57 years together before Roger's passing in 2018. Together they lived in West Allis for many years raising their family, during that time Cookie dedicated her life to her children and was also a foster mom for several infants. She and Roger retired to the Shawano area where they enjoyed boating on Shawano Lake and stopping at the local restaurants on or near the water. Cookie had many talents, she played the accordion and organ, crocheted, sewed and crafted. She was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Cecil. Cookie was strong-willed and feisty, and had a heart of gold, she was compassionate and generous, always putting others first. Her family was her whole world; she was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, she will be deeply missed.
Cookie is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Thomas) Ganster of Tigerton, Debra Jacques of Appleton, Doreen (Michael) Blattner of Mukwonago and Darcy (Peter Hurth) Strasman of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Wendy (Justin) Diestler, Erin (Jacob) Klauck, Benjamin Ganster, Sarah Ganster, Nathan (Amber) Ganster, Anna (Karim) Yaghleji, Jonathan Ganster, Caleb Ganster, Elizabeth (Nicholas) Boughton, Ashley (Nathan) Hanson, Matthew (Julia) Jacques, Bryan (Kylie) Jacques, Danielle (Adam) Syvrud, Luke (Anna) Jacques, Bethany (Matt) Jantz, Phillip (Kerry) Wirth, Jason Alan (Amy Czarapata) Wirth and Nicholas (Hayley) Blattner; great-grandchildren, Josiah, Annaliese, Layla, Noah, Rachel, Addelyn, Jireh, Lily, Sofia, Isaac, Toviah, Natalie, Amira, Raina, Kavion, Marcarius, Levi, Rory, Oliver, Lucas, Sarayah, Ellie, Nolan, Logan, Jordan, Lucy, Amelia, Edith, Wynston, Hazel, Theo, Jonas, Olive, Eden, Emma, Myah, Paris, Leo, Raegan, Sawyer, Michael, Oliver, Skylar and Harper; and a brother, Jerome "Jerry" (Sue) Kalamen. She is further survived by her faithful canine companion, Remy, as well as other relatives and friends.
Cookie is preceded in death by: her husband, Roger; a brother, Wayne Kalamen; a grandson, Eric Ganster; great grandchildren, Selah Jantz and Zorina Ganster; nephew, Stephen Kalamen; and her parents, Stephen and Helen.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday August 7, 2025, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Cecil with Fr. Edward Looney officiating and Deacon Todd Raether homilist. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 11:30 am until the time of the service. Inurnment will be in St. Martin of Tours Catholic Cemetery following the service.
