Obituary

Charles Elroy "Chuck" Massey, 59, began his journey to the spirit world on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 with his mother by his side at home in Keshena, WI. Chuck was born July 26, 1955, in Keshena, Wisconsin to Joan (nee Blumreich) Massey and the late William H. Massey. Chuck spent his early years, on the Menominee Reservation, in Milwaukee, WI, in Spruce, WI, and in Greenleaf, MS. In 1967, he and his brother Butch moved to Mississippi to live with their father. Chuck graduated from Independence High School in Mississippi in 1972 and earned a degree in tool and dye making from Northwest Community College in Mississippi in 1974. He worked for International Harvester as well as a conductor for the Illinois Central Railroad until retiring in 2000. After retirement, he split his time between living in both Greenleaf, Mississippi and Keshena. He was very proud of his two daughters, Samantha Arrants, Pharm.D, a pharmacist in New Bern, NC and Rachel Massey, a special education teacher for DeSoto County School District in Hernando, MS. Chuck was very proud of his Menominee heritage and loved learning about the old ways, participating in sweats, and in AA meetings. He had a passion for collecting hats, many came as gifts from his friends and family. An outdoorsmen, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding in the woods. As a railroad man, he loved telling stories of riding the rails. Chuck was loving, talkative, and opinionated, and made friends wherever he went. Memories of Chuck will live in legend for years to come with those who loved him. Chuck is survived by his daughters Rachel and Sam, his mother, Joan Lord of Keshena, his brother, William H. "Butch" (Lucy) Massey of Laws Hill, MS, his two sisters Karen M. Jones of Kenosha, WI and Anna M. "Annie" (Tim) Jones of Burlington, WI. He is further survived by his nephews Todd, Troy, Jason and Heath and his nieces Jamie, Tammy and Lauren. He was preceded in death by his father. A Memorial service will be held for Chuck at the Greenleaf United Methodist Church in Mississippi at 6:00pm on Monday, April 13, 2015. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 5:00pm until the time of the service.
