Obituary

Charlotte Ida Buckbee, age 89 of Shawano, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at her home. Born on January 7, 1922 in North Fond du Lac, she was the daughter of the late Milton and Mildred (Anker) Buckbee. After graduating from the Shawano High School in 1939, Charlotte attended the University of WI-Madison where she received her Bachelor's Degree in 1946 and her Master's Degree in 1955. She was licensed to teach elementary and secondary education as well as be a school counselor and school psychometrist. She worked for 37 years in the Shawano School District. Charlotte also worked in South Milwaukee and Birnamwood and also taught radio mechanics during World War II at Truax Field. While teaching in Shawano, Charlotte served as President of the Shawano Gresham Education Association. She was also the State Secretary for the WI Personnel & Guidance Association and was a member of the Great Federation of Women's Club where she was elected Woman of the Year for both the Shawano Business and Professional Women's Club as well as the Junior Women's Club. Charlotte was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, the Lake Country Republican Woman Association, the Association for Retarded Citizens, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Shawano Historical Society, and the Shawano Retired Teachers' Association. She was also an active member of the United Methodist Church in Shawano and was active in the Wesleyan Service Guild. Charlotte believed deeply in the teaching of Jesus Christ that happiness was found in serving people and that all people were equal in the eyes of God. Charlotte is survived by: her niece, Ellyn Buckbee; her nephew, Charles (Peg) Buckbee II; 2 great nieces, Heather (Doug Van Remortel) Born Van Remortel, Sara (Joe Rudesill) Grosskreutz Rudesill; a great nephew, Shane (Leslie) Buckbee; great great-nephew, Braxton Buckbee; great great-niece, Mylee Buckbee; a sister-in-law, Germaine Buckbee; cousins, Arlene Burke, Mary Ann Zahn, Karen Zarling, Bernard Anker and Jean Hatfield and their families; and special friend, Rolie Zeinert. Charlotte was preceded in death by: her parents, Milton and Mildred; a brother, Charles John Buckbee I; a sister-in-law, Winifred Jane Buckbee; Martin & Ella Miller, George & Clara Black, and Carl & Geraldine Voelz. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 26, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Shawano with the Rev. Domnik Israel officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery next to her parents. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday after 9am until the time of the service. An Auxiliary Service will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Auxiliary Post #117 at 10:30am on Friday. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.
