Christopher "Chris" "Niibaasé Makwaa" (Sleeping Bear) Newton, age 31 of Keshena, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020. Chris was born on February 15, 1989 to Virgil Chevalier and Elizabeth Washinawatok in Shawano. He enjoyed the outdoors, attending traditional ceremonies, and especially fishing. Chris had a great sense of humor and enjoyed pushing people's buttons. He enjoyed being with his brothers and spending time with his children. Chris will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Chris is survived by the love of his life and mother of his children, Alberta Sanapaw; children, William Sanapaw, Wakosāēh Sanapaw, Waatanegeshik Sanapaw, and Elizabella Shepard; mother, Elizabeth (Dale) Zickuhr; siblings, Virgil (Tricia) Chevalier, Michael (Crystal) Chevalier, Richard (Gina) Chevalier, Anthony Chevalier, Jeanette Chevalier, Louis Chevalier, Jeanne Chevalier, Jennifer Chevalier, Osawanahkwat Chevalier, Danny Chevalier, Autumn Chevalier, Kyle Newton, Vincent Newton and Angela Newton; and step mother, Jodi Chevalier. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Chevalier, his brother, Richard King, and grandparents, Bill and Rose Washinawatok and Jeanette Chevalier.
