Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Holmgren, age 87, of Cecil passed away on July 25, 2026, in Shawano. Cindy was born on February 22, 1939, in Madison to the late Lyle and Viola (Unke) Baerwald. On September 9, 1961, Cindy was united in marriage to Nils Holmgren in Appleton. She worked as a professor at the Bellin College of Nursing where she specialized in oncology. Cindy loved horses and enjoyed riding. She had an adventurous spirit and learned to scuba dive at the age of 50. She and Nils enjoyed diving together, they spent countless hours underwater together locally and took several trips to the Caribbean. Her faith was a driving force in her life, and she was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Green Bay. Cindy was an amazing woman. Everyone loved her. She was warm, kind, and humble and she would do anything for anyone. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends she leaves behind.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Nils; son, Eric Holmgren; a sister, Glenda Polzin; as well as other relatives and many close friends.

Cindy is preceded in death by her daughter, Kristine Sanchez; and parents, Lyle and Viola Baerwald.

A celebration of life is currently being planned.
