IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dallas "Dal"
Latender
June 17, 1986 – December 23, 2023
Dallas James "Dal" "Towaehkanakwat" Latender, 37 years young, passed away unexpectedly and started his journey to the Spirit World on Saturday December 23, 2023, in Keshena. Dallas was born June 17th, 1986, in Shawano to Carrie Latender and the late Gus Peters.
Dallas was raised on the Menominee Reservation all of his life, growing up in White City, Neopit; a place that he held dear to his heart all his life. He attended grade school at Menominee Tribal School and graduated 8th grade there. He then went to the Menominee High School, graduating with the class of 2004. Dal loved the game of baseball and was a big Brewers fan. He played the game well and in his younger days, he played little league for the Neopit White Sox, Menominee Babe Ruth and Legion Teams, as well as the Menominee Jr. & Sr. High School Teams. Then afterwards Dal joined the Neopit Chiefs and was a member of the club when they were victorious in winning the BABA Grand Championship in 2012. His love for the game didn't stop there, he went on to assist the coaching of the Babe Ruth and Legion teams as well as the Neopit White Sox and Keshena Little League teams.
Our Towaehkanakwat possessed such a simple, loving and most humble spirit. He never wanted for much at all, only to make others happy spreading joy and laughter all the time, being a jokester and a comedian, his voice and laughter could carry for miles. Family was everything to him and he was a man who could never hold a grudge, it just wasn't in him. To him Family was Family and that's it. He forever was lending a helping hand to anyone that needed it, without question. Towaehkanakwats favorite pastimes included being in the woods and nature, as well as family lake lots. His love was spread so far and wide, and he will be tremendously missed by all those who were fortunate to cross paths with him.
Dallas's employment included working at MTE over the years as a utility man. He also worked as a sawyer for Peters Logging and at Precision Cuts Tree Service.
Dal is survived by his parents, Carrie (Gert) & Robert (Bob) Delabrue; his love, Kristy Corn; children, Nikolas (Sophia) Komanekin, Wiaskasew Komanekin, Austin Peters, Ashton LaTender, Scarlett LaTender, Simone LaTender, Kamreigh LaTender, Duane Waupoose and Wanaewanet Waupoose; Big Brother Donald (Shirley) LaTender, nieces and nephews, Tiarra (Donny), Mae, Armani, Amari & Adonis. Little Brother Dawson (Reys) LaTender; nephews and nieces, Tony, Robert, Rylee, Allie & Dior. Maternal grandmother, Annette LaTender; paternal grandmother, Gloria Miller; grandparents, Orland (Eguy) and Romaine Delabrue. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many other relatives and friends.
Dal was preceded in death by his father, Gus Peters; his maternal grandfather, Donald "Smacky" LaTender; and his paternal grandfather, Alex "Boots" Peters.
A celebration of Dal's life was held at the Neopit Community Center with a funeral mass held on December 29, 2023, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Burial will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Neopit this coming spring.
