Obituary

Daniel Jay 'Digger' Kretschmann, age 57 of Shawano, ran into the arms of his son, Michael, on Saturday, July 7, 2018 in Appleton. Born on December 8, 1960 in Lake Mills, WI, he is the son of Barbara (Nytes) Kretschmann and the late Jerome Kretschmann. Dan is a 1979 graduate of Watertown High School. There are no negative words when describing Digger. He was a hard-working, family-loving man who knew the first time he laid eyes on Lisa, he was going to marry her and build a family. Dan and Lisa decided fifteen years ago that they were going to take a shot at owning their own monument company and jumped straight into the deep end, moving their family to an unfamiliar area and taking out a loan where they had no other choice but to make it work. His cool demeanor was instrumental in his success, never raised his voice or got too worked up over the small things, which in the end, are all small things. He worked hard so that he and his family could live their best lives and they did. His numerous toys and material items came as a byproduct of him loving his work and his life and was never about chasing a status. Digger lived a life most would envy and never took it for granted; he was the epitome of who a great man should be. Gone too soon… but will live on in the hearts of many close friends and family. Dan is a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena, as well as St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Lakewood.

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; his son, Matt (Cari) Kretschmann of Shawano; his mother, Barbara of Watertown; his siblings, Duke Kretschmann of Stoughton, Denise (John) Grinwald of Watertown, David (Maria) Kretschmann of Fond du Lac and Dawn (Jerry) Keeser of Watertown; a brother-in-law, Lee Schumacher of Clyman; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his son, Michael; his father, Jerome; and his sister, Debra Schumacher.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena with the Father Nonito Jesus Barra officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
