Darrel L. "Dusty" Corn, age 72 of the Town of Washington, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012 in Shawano. Born on March 8, 1940 in Keshena, he was the son of the late Dewey and Ruth (Sterud) Corn. Darrel was raised in Elbowoods, ND. After graduating from high school, he enlisted with the United States Army. After his honorable discharge from service, Darrel moved to the Milwaukee area where he worked for Louis Allis for a time, then went into construction and then maintenance at the Milwaukee County Mental Health Department. On August 15, 1964 he was united in marriage to Karen Mueller in Milwaukee. The couple continued to live in the Milwaukee area until Darrel's retirement when they moved to the Shawano area. Darrel was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano and was a past member of the Operating Engineers Local #139 and the AFSCME. In his free time Darrel enjoyed fishing and hunting. Darrel is survived by: his wife, Karen of 47 years; a daughter, Dawn (Ken) Schmidt of Livingston, TX; a son, Pete Corn of Dallas, TX; 2 grandchildren, Andrew (Cyndie) Schmidt and Joshua Schmidt all of Livingston, TX; and a great-grandchild, Stella. Darrel was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Dewey Corn; and a sister, Dianna Haataja. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Peter L. Sherven officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117 at the funeral home following the service.
