Obituary

David J. Laux, age 82, of the Town of Belle Plaine, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 27, 2018. Born in New London on September 12, 1936, he was the son of the late Henry and Sarah (Roberts) Laux.  He worked at Northland Hotel and a barber shop in Green Bay until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1959.  He was a Medic in the 2 nd armored division from 1959-1961, HG Co. 127 th infantry, National Guard from 1962-1963 and served during the Berlin Wall Crisis in the 32 nd Red Arrow Division at Fort Lewis, Washington.  During his service David was united in marriage to Alice Marie Piehl on April 23, 1960, at St. Martins Church in Belle Plaine.   After his honorable discharge, he worked on a dairy farm and later owned and operated Dave's Barber Shops in Bonduel as well as Shawano.  David liked small game hunting and fishing when he had the time.  He also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, as well as the Boston Red Sox, since he knew Frank Howard, one of their players quite well.  David belonged to the Shawano AMVETS Post #10.

David is survived by his wife, Alice; children, James (Linda) Laux of Shawano and Kathleen (James) Cummings of Shawano; grandchildren, Melissa and Steven Laux, Courtney (Ryan) Weisnicht, Brendan and Christa Cummings; great-grandchildren, Abby and Hazel; step brother, Harold Hauser; step sister, Janet Born; and sister-in-law, Barbara Laux. He is further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Hailey Nicole Cummings; sister, Veryl (Frank) Meyer; brothers, Roger and Leland Laux and sister-in-law, Phylis Laux.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at St. James Church in Shawano with Rev. Steve Schauder officiating. Following the service, military honors will be conducted by the Shawano AMVETS Post #10 at church. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
