Overstreet
October 19, 1942 – January 20, 2025
Dr. David Frederic "Dave" "Dr.O" Overstreet, PhD, age 82, passed away on Monday January 20, 2025, in Milwaukee. Dave was born on October 19, 1942, in Milwaukee to the late Dale and Rosemary (Weaver) Overstreet. He served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. On January 17, 1966, Dave was united in marriage to Barbara Seidita. He received a doctoral degree in anthropology from UW-Milwaukee and has been a practicing professional archaeologist for over 50 years. Dave taught at UW-Waukesha, UW-Milwaukee, was Director of Archaeology at Marquette University and taught and administered the Archaeology Department at the College of Menominee Nation. He was a Research Associate at the Milwaukee Public Museum. In 1994, Dave directed the excavation of the Hebior Mammoth found in Kenosha which is now on display at the Milwaukee Public Museum. Dr. O was very proud of his affiliation with the Menominee Nation. He took special satisfaction in working with Menominee youth during the Culture Camp program. It was his privilege to accept the honor of an appointment as a Sturgeon Warrior and Honorary Thunderbird. He was a loving husband, father and made his sons and family proud.
Dave is sadly missed by his beloved wife, Barbara (Seidita) of 59 years; loving sons, Colin and Ryan; sister, Carla (Bob) Bisaro; and sister-in-law, Sandra Seidita. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.
