IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David J.
Reinheimer
February 26, 1937 – December 12, 2021
David John Reinheimer died peacefully on December 12, 2021, at his home in Cecil, WI. He was born on February 26, 1937, to Byron and Irene (Beversdorf) Reinheimer in Shorewood. Dave's great grandfather, John Reinheimer, was one of the first settlers in eastern Shawano County, arriving in 1875 when it was still Indian country.
Dave attended Riverside High School in Milwaukee where he excelled at basketball. He attended University of Wisconsin Milwaukee where he continued to play basketball. After a year, he left college to join his dad in the tire business. A few years later his dad died, and he took over Byron's Tire and Battery in Milwaukee at the young age of 24.
While working for his dad, he and his friend Jack Dahlman started hanging out with a group of nursing students. He met Patricia McGilsky and asked her on a date to his grandmother's birthday party. When he dropped her off afterwards he asked her, "Can I pick you up for church in the morning?" She was impressed.
They married on June 7,1959. Before he tied the knot, he made two essential purchases before money got tight: a hunting rifle and a speedboat. He continued in the tire business as they made their home in Whitefish Bay where they had three children, Steve, Tom and Ann. He passed on his love for sports to his children. He bought their house in Whitefish Bay for its large courtyard in the back. On Sundays at church, he would invite all the fathers and sons over to play basketball.
Dave learned his love for the outdoors growing up on Shawano Lake at the family cottage. He knew the lake like the back of his hand and always knew where the fish were biting. He had the patience of a saint when teaching children to fish. He didn't care if his line ever made it in the water as he untangled lines and baited hooks. During his deer hunting days, he rarely shot a deer, but made sure everybody else did and had a good time.
Dave was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. Faith in God was important to him, and he had a generous heart, always willing to volunteer or lend a hand where there was a need. He served in many leadership positions at Our Savior in Whitefish Bay, First Emmanuel in Cedarburg, and then St. James and Resurrection in Shawano. He came from a very long line of Lutherans.
Dave had an engaging personality, and he was a connector of people. He will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife Pat; children Steven Reinheimer and Ann (Stephen) Rogers; Grandchildren Dustin (Mimi Holton) Reinheimer, Kristina Rogers and Hannah (Mitch) Kinney; great grandchildren Logan Reinheimer and Adelaide Kinney, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Tom, parents Byron and Irene, and brothers Byron Jr. and Dan.
A funeral service for David will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stony Hill with Steve Conradt officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in the summer. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday until the time of service.
It would be Dave's wish that memorials be made in the name of Wolf River Lutheran High School.
