Obituary

Delphine M. Yunk, age 88 of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2020. Her illness came on suddenly, but her family was able to spend time with her before her passing. Delphine was born on June 15, 1932 in Milwaukee to the late Frederick and Joanna (Brzezinski) Drezdzon. She had 9 siblings, 4 sons, and 2 daughters.

She graduated from an all-girl high school, Girl's Tech, in 1950. Delphine loved high school and was the editor of the senior yearbook. She met our father, Walter Yunk, and moved to Philadelphia to be with him on the base before he left for the Korean War. They returned to Milwaukee after the war. Because of her love of camping (we may be lying) and her love of Shawano, she moved her family there in 1969. After a short time, they purchased a cottage resort. It was lots of work, but a great place to raise a family. Delphine provided her children with the ultimate playground living on Shawano Lake. She was a stay at home mom for most of her life, there was always a hot dinner at night and dessert! Delphine loved giving gifts at Christmas. She was an accomplished seamstress and a pro at crossword puzzles. Delphine was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Once her children were grown, Delphine moved to California for several years before returning to Shawano. She loved football (including college) and the Green Bay Packers. She ran the Packer pool at the apartment complex where she lived. She loved to gamble and enjoyed going to the casinos in Las Vegas.

Mom is survived by her 5 children, Walter "Kuba" (Kathy) Yunk, David Yunk, Nancy (Mark) Villars, Daniel (Laurie) Yunk, and Lori (Bill) Kumbalek; grandchildren, Heather Martens, Sarah (VonDeck) Yunk, Richard Yunk, Ariel Kumbalek, Billy Kumbalek, Kayla Yunk, Noah Kumbalek, and Ben Kumbalek; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three surviving siblings, Shirley Kaboskey, Lois Riley, and Karen Kennon;  as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Auntie Martha and Uncle Clem; and siblings, Myron Drezdzon, Freddy Drezdzon, Ruthie Gambino, and Pat Dent; one son, Steven Yunk; and grandson, David Martens.

A memorial service will be held for Delphine at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service.

The family of Delphine would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at ThedaCare in Shawano and Neenah, we will forever be grateful by your direction and kindness.
