Denise Evon
Chamberlin
November 17, 1939 – January 30, 2026
Denise Evon (Stafford) Chamberlin was born on November 17,1939 to Alice (Richard) and William Stafford. The first of 4 girls. She grew up in Sault Ste Marie, MI. She married Herold Chamberlin on January 23, 1960, in Sault Ste. Marie and immediately moved to California. They had three children, David (1960), Eric (1962) and Ann Marie (1967). During their marriage they lived in California, New Mexico, The Philippines, Nebraska, England, North Dakota and on Herold's retirement from the Air Force the landed in Marquette, MI. Denise was a stay home mom that volunteered at the schools for her kids, she went on class trips and countless band trips. She was very involved in her church, running the CCD programs with her husband, involved in the CCW and an active Eucharistic Minister. Denise started college when her youngest was in 8th grade, and graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work with high honors. They moved to Madison, WI in 1992 and she worked in a halfway house helping women getting out of jail. She and Herold moved around 1995 to Adam-Friendship, and she worked at Bridges for Youth helping kids and families. She was very involved in her community and was involved in the local theater group and Friends of the Park. Denise loved her family and loved to have company as often as possible.
She loved playing cards and board games. She was the partner to have when playing Trivia Pursuit. She was an avid reader of murder mysteries and WWII. She was a collector of Elephants and later Rosters thanks to her Son-In-Law.
She lived for her grandchildren. She loved to be with her sisters and BIL playing cards and dice games. She went on vacation making memories with Ann Marie and her husband and children to New Orleans, South Dakota, Copper Habor, Door County, Apostle Islands and many trips to Mackinac Island a favorite. Washington DC was the final "big" trip in 2016. All trips included museums, hikes, wineries when possible and three meals a day no one went hungry. When her memories started to fade, her personality still broke through and was still able to bring joy to people around her at THE COTTAGES on golden pond in Shawano where she lived her final years.
She was married to husband Herold until his passing in 2024 and was impressive 64 years. She will be greatly missed by her family, many friends that she had collected along her life's journey. She leaves her children: David (Jodi) Chamberlin. Eric (Mary) Chamberlin and Ann Marie, and Curt Brei. Grandchildren: Daniel Chamberlin, Alyssa Chamberlin, Erica (Ron) Langworthy, Patrick (Nicole) Chamberlin, Andrew Chamberlin, Alexis (Lou) Fisher, Joel (Alexis) Brei, Dayne Cramer, Tessa Brei, Theresa Chamberlin and Claire Brei. Great-Grandchildren include Ronnie and Emma Langworthy, Greyson and Carter Thompson and Flynn Brei.
A memorial mass will be held for Denise at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leopolis with fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Visitation will begin at the church on Thursday at 9:30 am until the time of service.
