Obituary

Dewey "Cheequascum" Anthony Thunder Jr., age 40, passed away surrounded by his family on September 22, 2023, in Neenah, Wisconsin. Dewey was born on December 30, 1982, son of Dewey Thunder Sr. and Laura (Boyd) Doud. Dewey worked for many years as a youth advocate at the Woodland Boys and Girls Club, as well as for Menominee Enterprises. He was an extremely caring and loving man who always put his family before himself. Dewey was dedicated to serving his tribe and his community and was highly respected on the Pow-Wow trail. He was a proud member of the Smokey Town Singers and Big Drum. In his free time, he enjoyed making drums, singing, and playing basketball. He never missed the chance to watch a Packer game with his family. Dewey was a great dad and loved his sons more than anything. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

Dewey is survived by: his sons, Dorian "Wapakenew" Thunder and Duane "Maec Awahsaeh" Thunder; the mother of his children Rebecca Genschow; his parents Dewey (Emily) Thunder Sr. and Laura (Bernard Jr.) Doud; his mother/grandmother Diana Thunder; his significant other Jodi Redkettle; his siblings Tina (Randy) Tourtillott, Agoshee Doud, Karey Boyd, Namakesa (Alexandra) Doud, Samantha (Jason) Lande, Bryant (Krista Warrington) Doud, Nicholas (Gabrielle) Doud, Chaunee Doud,  Zoar Doud, Bernard Doud III, Shauna Thunder, and Mindi Thunder; and close friends, Dana Warrington, Robert Penass, and JJ Corn; special friend, Elizabeth Peters; special aunt Rose Wayka.  He is further survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by: a brother, Craig Thunder; a niece, Alizah Martin; grandparents, Barbara Reiter and Charles Tourtillott; great grandmother, Helen Thunder; his aunt Melanie Verhaagh; special brother William "Giizh" Pyawasay.

Traditional Big Drum services will be held at the Zoar Ceremonial Building beginning at 5:00pm Saturday, September 23, 2023, and continuing until 1:00pm Monday, September 25, 2023.  Burial will be in the Zoar Indian Burial Grounds.
