Donald E. Anker, age 92, passed away on August 4, 2025, in Shawano. Donald was born on November 10, 1933, in Shawano to the late Irvin and Sylvia Anker.

Donald proudly served in the United States Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL, in 1951, right out of high school. He served on the USS Missouri during the Korean War and served his country well. He took utmost pride in his four years of service. There was never a day when he left the house without properly displaying his many US Navy hats or shirts. He was a proud noble US Veteran.

In May of 2016, he was honored to be chosen for the flight of his life. Donald was chosen to fly with the Old Glory Honor Flight Mission #35 to D.C. where he had the opportunity to view the veteran monument. This flight opened his eyes to the true and genuine support from the sponsors and reaffirmed his love for his country. He shared this unforgettable experience with many.

Donald was united in marriage to Marilyn Lenning on June 5, 1971, at Peace United Church of Christ in Shawano. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. From a young boy until his body got frail, he spent his best moments outdoors. Fishing and hunting with his son, son-in-law or grandsons always gave him great joy. You could often find him sitting outside especially in the summertime with his shirt off and a cold beer in hand. He loved his scratch offs, pull tabs and lottery tickets. A bet was his favorite thing to do. No man was more faithful to a bet than he was.

Donald is survived by his daughters, Tammy (Steve) Pleshek and Teresa (Jude) Wachtel; grandchildren, Jeremy Pleshek, Steven Pleshek, Abbygail Wachtel, Ava Wachtel, Alexis Wachtel, Levi Anker, Ethan Anker, Noah Anker, and Naomi (Devin) Anker.

Donald is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Marilyn J. Anker; parents, Irvin and Sylvia Anker; son, Troy Anker; and grandson, Brandon Anker.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Lake Drive Cemetery with Pastor Scott Ludford officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Shawano VFW.
