Donald J. Bywater, age 92, of Shawano, passed away on November 19, 2015 at his home. Donald was born in Milwaukee on April 24, 1923, the son of the late James J. and Lena O. (Schmidt) Bywater. Donald enlisted in the United States Army in 1943. After discharge, he worked as an auto mechanic and at Allis-Chalmers before finding his job at the Milwaukee County Parks Commission. Don worked there for 34 years before his retirement. Don was united in marriage to Sharon Lynn (Paschke) Fiala on August 17, 1991 at Hope Church in Cecil. Donald enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Donald is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children, Donna (Mike) Mayr of Coloma, Betty (Marty) Elmer of Waldo, Linda (Jim Herman) Buschman of Shawano, Janet (Barry) Boll of Milwaukee, Debbie (Doug) Wendt of Milwaukee, Howard (Judy) Bywater of Oak Creek, Rick (Karen) Bywater of West Allis, Bill Bywater of West Allis and Bob (Jorja) Bywater of East Troy; his step-children, Michael (Tammy) Fiala, Deborah (Michael) Gentile, Betsy (Sam) Kim, Thomas Fiala all of IL, and Joe Fiala of Shawano. He is further survived by 31 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren as well as one son-in-law, Robert Schiebenes, Jr. of Suamico.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia; his second wife, Joyce; two children, Patricia Schiebenes and David Bywater and one granddaughter, Dawn Buschman.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015, from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m. at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano. Military Honors will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Pinelawn Memorial Park located at 10700 W. Capitol Dr., Milwaukee. Inurnment will take place following Military Honors. Visitation will be held in the chapel at Pinelawn, on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the honors.
