Donald W. Goers, age 89 of Shawano, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020. Donald was born on July 15, 1931 to the late Adolph and Helen (Schilke) Goers in Cecil, Wisconsin. Donald was united in marriage to Doris C. Hoernke. Doris preceded him in death on September 20, 2009. Don was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Don graduated from Shawano High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force. During his time in the Air Force, he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. Don spent almost his entire life working in the automotive industry. As a teenager, he worked in his father's dealership. In 1975, Don purchased Born Buick & Pontiac Inc. and it became Don Goers Buick & Pontiac Inc., which was owned and operated by Don, Doris, Dana and Denise.

Along with running the business and raising a family, Don had many interests. Don was a member of the civil air patrol, and upon his retirement, had reached the rank of lieutenant colonel. Don's passion was for the outdoors. As a conservationist, Don dedicated himself to educate youth, as well as adults, and asked for their help in preserving the land and its resources. Don served as an instructor for bowhunter education, turkey hunting, and trapping throughout Wisconsin. Dan was involved in many organizations and committees, such as the Shawano Archery Club, the Wisconsin Bowhunters Association, the Wolf River Planning Committee, the Wisconsin Conservation Congress, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Great Lakes Resource Committee, and the Wisconsin Buck & Bear Club, in addition to being a Hall of Fame member of both the Wisconsin Conservation Congress and the Shawano-Clintonville Bowling Association. In recognition of all Don has done, Governor Tommy Thompson named March 5 th , 2000, as "Don Goers Day". Don was recognized with the Regional Wildlife Management Special Service Award for his dedicated work and countless hours he had given over the past 60+ years to the stewardship of our state's natural resources, especially wildlife and our youth.

Don is survived by his children, Denise (Peter) Geertsma and Dana Goers, and grandchildren, Craig Kamke, Stacie Kamke, Devon Goers, and Jesse Goers.
