Donald John Kroll, age 81 of Bonduel, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 in Bonduel. Born on May 20, 1930 in the Town of Herman, he was the son of the late John and Emma (Viergutz). Donald was a graduate of the Shawano High School class of 1948. On December 17, 1950 he was united in marriage to Sally Ready at the St. Paul-Stony Hill Church in the Town of Richmond. In 1951 he enlisted with the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge from service, Donald went to work as the Ice Cream truck driver for Dehn's Ice Cream. He was affectionately known as "Popsicle Pete" by all the children, and adults, in the area. Donald retired in 1991 and went back to work driving school bus. Donald enjoyed playing the drums with the Gordy Miller, Del Zuleger and Arlie Bork Bands and recently played at President's Park at the Shawano County Fair last fall. He was a member of the Frieden's Ev. Lutheran Church in Bonduel where he was a former president and council member. Donald was also an active member of the Bonduel American Legion Post #217 and the American Federation of Musicians. He was also a member of the Shawano Bowling Hall of Fame and the Gresham Baseball Hall of Fame. Donald also enjoyed driving the Amish around for many years. He was an avid sports fan and loved to hunt and fish. Donald is survived by: 3 daughters, Terri (Chuck) Robley of Shawano, Tracie (John) Popp of Shawano, Tammi Kroll of Bonduel; 2 sons, Thomas Kroll of Shawano, Todd (Heather) Kroll of Shawano; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; his companion, Mary Ann Rehfeldt of Bonduel; 1 brother, Robert Kroll of Neenah; a sister, Ilamae Buckoski of DePere; and a sister-in-law, Hazel Kroll of Medford. Donald was preceded in death by: his wife, Sally on June 8, 1996; a daughter, Toni Ross; his parents; a sister, Lorian Wichmann; and a brother, Maurice Kroll. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Frieden's Ev. Lutheran Church in Bonduel with the Rev. Virgil Hanson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Bonduel American Legion Post #217. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 4-8pm and on Tuesday after 10am until the time of the service. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established.
