Donald Gene Mooney, age 81 of Shawano, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at his home. Born on December 26, 1929 in Clarkfield, MN, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Ethel Mooney. On January 9, 1947 Donald enlisted with the United States Army and served until 1948. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1952. A year after his honorable discharge from service, he married Gladys Hagen on November 7, 1953 at La Crosse. The couple made their home in the Milwaukee and Waukesha area where Donald was employed at Lacrosse Cement Company and Marquette (Lonestar) Cement Company. In April of 1994 Donald retired and the couple moved to the Shawano area three years later. In his free time Donald enjoyed working in the yard, fishing and going for boat rides. Donald is survived by: his wife Gladys of 58 years; 3 children; Patrick Mooney of Crystal Lake, IL, Sandra Klenko of Madison, Ronald Mooney of Shawano; 7 grandchildren; Kane (Carrie) Klenko, Tracy (Ian) Forkash, Amy Mooney, Kyle Klenko, Caleb (Chelssey) Klenko, Connor Mooney, Kelsey Mooney and 6 great-grandchildren; Jeremiah & Isaiah Kinikin, Carter & Kallen Klenko, Canyon & Savannah Forkash and also his dog Ginger. Donald was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers. He was also preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Sierra Forkash. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Rev. Peter L Sherven officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano, concluding with Presentation of Colors by the Shawano American Legion Post #117. Visitation will be held at the funeral home in Shawano on Tuesday from 4-8pm and on Wednesday after 10am until the time of the service. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
