"Tom" Johnson
October 24, 1935 – November 16, 2021
Donald "Tom" Joseph Johnson, age 86, of Waupaca, passed away on Tuesday November 16, 2021. He was born on October 24, 1935, in Keshena, to the late James and Eva (Peters) Johnson. After high school Tom went on to serve his country admirably in the Airforce and was honorably discharged. After being discharged, Tom went on to have a lifelong career of welding in Milwaukee as well as working on the ships of Lake Michigan. Tom also had a passion for counseling other Native Americans from the Menominee Tribe and many other tribes. In later years he moved back to the Menominee Reservation and made special visits to his family. One of his many pastimes was taking his boys fishing. He was known for his loving demeanor as well as the sound of jingling change in his pocket.
Tom is survived by: his son Warren J. Johnson; his other sons Richard (Lisa) Rabideaux and Joseph Rabideaux; his Rabideaux grandchildren; and his sister Rosalind (Orrin) Waupoose. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Eva; his siblings Kenneth "Swede" Johnson, Hazel "Hashy" Wozniak, Nelson "Jack" Johnson, Elizabeth "Boosie" Johnson and Maureen "Brown" Long.
A funeral service for Tom will be held on Saturday November 20, 2021, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano at 11:00 am with Deacon Jim Lonick officiating. Visitation will be on Friday November 19, 2021, at the funeral home from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a 7:00 pm prayer service. Visitation will then continue Saturday from 9:30 until the time of service. Burial will be at St. Joseph's of the Lake Cemetery in South Branch following services military honors which will be performed at the funeral home by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation and the Menominee Legion Post #497.
