Dorothy E. (Babbitt) Barrows, age 93 of Shawano, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014 in Shawano. Born on March 6, 1921 at the family farm near Macedonia, Iowa, she was the youngest of nine children born to Frank Cort and Nettie Belle (Warren) Babbitt. She lived her early years in the Macedonia area, later moving with her parents to Council Bluffs, Iowa where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1938. Dorothy was married to E.O. "Al" Barrows on September 12, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska. They had been married 51 years at the time of Al's death on January 15, 1999. The couple lived in several states during Al's 25 years of employment with General Foods Corporations. They retired to Tucson, Arizona in 1979. Dorothy moved to Shawano in February 2009 to be near her son and daughter-in-law. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Shawano. Dorothy enjoyed reading and watching sports, especially the College World Series and college football, and was a long-time Green Bay Packers fan. She made many friends over the years in the cities she lived in and enjoyed keeping in touch with them. Dorothy is survived by: her son, Donald Ray Barrows and his wife, Constance of Cecil; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great great-granddaughter; a special niece, Judith K. (Robert) Ring; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by: her husband, Al; a grandson, Douglas Barrows; her parents; a sister, Elaine Clausen; and 7 brothers, Ralph, Darwin, Paul, Gerald, Lawrence, Ward and Noel Babbitt.
