Dorothy J. Bowan, age 77, of Shawano, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017. Dorothy was born on June 3, 1940 in Embarrass, Wisconsin, to the late William and Hildegard (Fredrick) Zimmerman.  When Dorothy was two weeks old, the family moved to a farm in Pella.  On December 12, 1958, in Shawano, Dorothy was united in marriage to Allan L. Bowan, who preceded her in death on April 27, 2006.  The couple lived in Shawano most of their married life, where they owned and operated Al's Little Market for 25 years… known by kids as the place to go if you wanted penny candy, as well as folks looking for some of Dorothy's potato salad.  Dorothy was a member of the Lutheran faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, followed by Zion Lutheran Church of Shawano, where she served on many committees, including ZLCW, where once again, her infamous potato salad made many appearances.  Dorothy enjoyed helping her daughter, Jolene in operating an adult family home for several years.

She is survived by: her sons, Jeff (Marlene) and Tom Bowan; brothers and sisters, Janet Romberg, Elmer Zimmerman, Betty Christiansen, Lorraine Lohrentz, Ruth Kutchenriter, Sally Peterson, Fred Zimmerman, Nancy Laude, Bill Zimmerman; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by: her husband, Al; her daughter, Jolene R. Bowan; her parents; her sister, Mary Firgens and her brother, John Zimmerman.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano with Rev. Scott Ludford officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.  Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.  Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano.
