Dorothy Elizabeth Hammel, age 90 of Friendship, formerly of Shawano, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield. The former Dorothy Sheetz was born on June 16, 1922 in Waukesha. After college, she started her career in the monastery and later became a nurse in the Children's Ward. Dorothy later owned and operated her own restaurant and worked on the family farm. When not working, she enjoyed dancing, playing cards and spending time with her family. Dorothy is survived by: 4 sons, Alan E. (Dawn) Wheeler of Friendship, David J. Wheeler of Australia, Darwin F "Winky" Wheeler of Wisconsin Rapids, Jim Wheeler of MO; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by: her 1st husband, Luis Hammel; her 2nd husband, James "Bud" Wheeler; 2 daughter, Cathy Brown, Louise Theis; and a son, Richard Wheeler. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Melinda Shriner officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano.
