Obituary

Dorothy Waelchli, age 91, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Shawano Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 10, 1923 in Fort Atkinson, WI, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Matilda (Florine) Eckhart. On November 15, 1942 she was united in marriage to Clarence R. Waelchli in Fort Atkinson. After marriage the couple lived in the Town of Belle Plaine. Dorothy was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church Stony Hill where she enjoyed being an active member of the Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Women Missionary League. She enjoyed traveling, canning, sewing, and crocheting. She crocheted an afghan for every one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her earlier years Dorothy liked to play cards and read, and especially enjoyed reading inspirational stories. She was also a member of the Shawano County Homemakers for over 50 years. Dorothy was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. Dorothy is survived by: four daughters, Phyllis Brodhagen of Wausau, Judy (Orville) Westphal of Shawano, Betty (LeRoy) Raddant of Shawano, and Jean (Milton) Brusewitz of Bonduel; a daughter-in-law, Susan Waelchli of Shawano; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren (with number 30 on the way); and 6 great great-grandchildren. She is further survived by foster sisters-in-law, Kathy (Marlyn) Teetzen and Gloria Blonde of Shawano; as well as a foster brother-in-law, Carl Nelson of AL. She was preceded in death by: her husband Clarence; her son Allan; a grandson, James Brodhagen; her parents; two brothers, George and Robert; sisters-in-law, Helen Marie Krause, Arlene Salzmann, and Gracie Eckhart; brothers-in-law, Vilas Krause and Lloyd Salzmann; a foster brother-in-law, Merlyn "Butch" Blonde; and a foster sister-in-law Millie Blonde Nelson. A funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church Stony Hill with Rev. John C. Eyer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church Stony Hill. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Terrie Timm, The Cottages, and Shawano Medical Center for the wonderful care given to Dorothy.
