IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Drew Alexandria
Lacefield
April 14, 1974 – March 31, 2021
Drew Alexandria Lacefield passed in the arms of the love of her life on March 31, 2021. Drew was born on April 14, 1974 to Donald and Jeannine (Ladd) Askenette in Milwaukee. She attended the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee where she earned her bachelor's degree and later attended Concordia University where she earned her master's degree. On October 21, 2017, Drew was united in marriage to Jeremy Lacefield in Milwaukee.
Drew was a mentor, inspiration, and friend to whomever she crossed paths with. She devoted all of her adult life to helping others; from teaching at the Indian Community School to her work at Maehnowesekiyah with the Menominee Indian Tribe. She was a steadfast proponent of Cultural Pride and Identity. Through her work she positively altered the lives of many. Drew always had the knack of saying the right thing, at the right time. To her friends and family, she was a larger-than-life personality wrapped in a small package. She also served as a vital link for those who had moved from the Reservation, and also those who remained home. Drew's passing has left such a tremendous physical void, but her legacy will continue to positively impact many for generations to come.
Drew is survived by her adoring and loving husband, Jeremy Lacefield; sons, Mekele LaBelle and Kenneth LaBelle; stepson, Tehaw^Nake LaBelle; stepdaughters, Janette Lacefield and Brianna Lacefield; grandchildren, Jaylaiyah Lacefield and Jalynn Lacefield; mother, Jeannine; father, Donald; sister, Odell (Luis) Mercado; niece, Nayeli Mercado; and nephew, Luis Mercado, III. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Drew will be remembered as a warrior, a fierce protector of her "man cubs", a proud leader in her community, and most importantly… an amazing person.
A funeral service for Drew will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Fr. Nonito Barra officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 9:30 am until the time of service. The family requests that masks be worn throughout visitation and services.
