Obituary

Duke Moesch, Sr. died at his home on Sunday morning, September 25, 2016 in the care of his family. Duke was born in Shawano on April 7, 1940, the youngest child of Elroy F. and Selma (Krause) Moesch. He attended Shawano Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1958. On July 4 th , 1959, Duke married Mitzi Mason and thus began a 57 year-long adventure.
Duke worked in the construction industry throughout his entire working life. He served his plumbing apprenticeship with Ken Beyer Plumbing in Shawano. Duke graduated from NWTI, where he received his vocational education. In the mid 1960's till the mid 1970's, Duke was employed by R. J. Parins Plumbing in Green Bay. In 1976, Duke partnered with Bill Berken and started Berken & Moesch Plumbing in Shawano. He was a proud union plumber of 49 years, a member of Local 298 of Green Bay and Local 400 of Appleton. Duke retired from business in 2002, and he thoroughly enjoyed retirement.
In Duke's retirement years, he enjoyed gardening, tinkering in his workshop, hunting, fishing, camping and working in the woods. Duke was a capable and reliable "Mr. Fix-it" to his extended family and many friends. He volunteered his time and talents at Shawano Fish and Game Club and at Zion Lutheran Church. He loved Bonanza, The Rifleman and Little House on the Prairie; but nothing pleased him more than being surrounded by family - the smell of Mitzi's cooking, the voices and busy feet of generations he helped bring here.
Duke is survived by his wife, Mitzi; five children, Maria (Craig Aufenkamp) Moesch, Diane (Dennis Hein) Moesch, Joe (Amy Longshore) Moesch, Duke (Julie) Moesch, Jr, and Peter (Mikki) Moesch. Duke always counted his children's friends as his own children. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Margarita Moesch, Amanda & Michael Moesch, Neil (Traci) Hutchcraft, Christopher (Kailee) Hutchcraft, Gabriel (Cheyenne) Hein, Tonia Hein, Cassie (Guy) Scheffel, Chad (Jess) Moesch, Chelsea (Bryant Rankin) Moesch, and Mason & Isaiah Moesch; as well as nine great-grandchildren. Duke is further survived by two sisters, Delores Denny and Arbutus Olson; his brother and best friend, Roger "Jason" (Nan) Moesch; and one sister-in-law, Virginia "Tootie" Moesch; as well as many cousins and friends, who were a significant part of his life.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Camille J. Moesch; his parents; his brothers, Harley and Wally; brothers-in-law, August Denny and LeRoy Olson; and sister-in-law, Betty Moesch.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano with Rev. Scott Ludford officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm and again on Friday at the church from 9:30 am until the time of the service.
