Duane E. Rosenow, age 70 of Bowler, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 after a courageous ten year battle with prostate cancer. Born on July 6, 1942 in Shawano, he was the son of the late Elmer A. and Esther (Schmidt) Rosenow. After graduating from high school, Duane enlisted with the United States Army and served his country for two years during the Vietnam War. On September 21, 1968 he was united in marriage to Karen in Tilleda. Duane worked as a tool-die maker and was a member of the St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Bowler. In his free time he enjoyed building model ships and spending time outside. He was very proud of his fruit trees and blueberry patches. Duane also raised trout and operated a public fish-out for 33 years. Duane is survived by: his wife, Karen; 3 children, Kristi (Mitchell) Hefty of Eland, Kerry Rosenow of Tilleda, Kraig (Marc Rodriguez) Rosenow of Madison; 5 grandsons, Chad, Alex, Trevor, Travis, Zachary; a sister, Jeanette Rekow of Gresham; 3 sisters-in-law, Alice Rosenow, Evelyn Rosenow and Shirley Setala; and numerous nieces and nephews. Duane was preceded in death by: his parents; 2 brothers, Clifford and Norman Rosenow; 2 brothers-in-law, Ray Setala and Evans Rekow; and 2 nephews, Scott and Randy Rosenow. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Bowler with the Rev. Doug Heling officiating. Military Rites will be conducted at the church following the service. Burial will be in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Tilleda in the spring. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.
