Obituary

Duane "Dewey" Shepherd, of Shawano, went to be with The Lord on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at his home. Born 61 years ago in Appleton, he was the son of Ted and Edna (Yaeger) Shepherd. On April 3rd 1976 he was united in marriage to Marge Kobs in Kaukauna. Duane worked at Zwicker Knitting Mill until it closed. Then he went to work for American Can/Alcan until his second round with cancer. Duane is survived by: his loving wife, Marge; his daughters, Stacy (Kasey) Hayden and Nicole (Ben) Neuman; his 3 wonderful grandkids, J.T., Dominic, Isabella and another blessing, a baby girl, due in June; and 2 brothers, Bob (Sharon) and Don (Joan). Duane was preceded in death by: his parents; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters. Dewey fought cancer gallantly for 6 long years. He was strong through it all. Always had a smile and an upbeat attitude. Always tried to help everyone no matter how bad it got. Duane was a true and loving husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend. He will be missed. To all his friends and family who truly cared, know that he also felt the same about you all. From his wife and daughters, we are grateful for the love and compassion and especially the gift of laughter you gave Dewey. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. A special hug for Weezie and JoJo. Thanks for being a hero to this little girl, and her little boy. Love you always daddy/grandpa. Pappy, you are my hero, one of the only people I have ever looked up to. You have always been a man of honesty, integrity, strength and kindness. You are the bravest person I have ever known. I am so proud to be your daughter. Losing you is the hardest thing we have ever been through, but we will be strong like you taught us to. We will keep our heads held high just like you did. You always stood up for what was right, you always helped others even when you might have needed it more. You stayed positive through unbelievable circumstances, and those who truly knew you, know what a great man the word has lost and will be missed. Things will never be the same, but at least we know you're safe in Jesus' arms. Thank you for always being there, your loving daughter-Nikki. Duane, to my one and only! I love you with every fiber of my being. You mean the world to me. I will miss you so much, your wonderful sense of humor, the quick wit, but most of all the way you made me laugh. Thank you for all of it. How's that front row seat workin' for ya? Love, just me. A gathering to celebrate Dewey's life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Shawano County Park. The family asks that you bring your own beverages and a dish to pass. Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
